Luke and I arrived back in San Diego from our trip to Seattle on Monday, June 2nd. We had a great time. The trip was over before we knew it, but that’s just how these trips go.
Our plane arrived at the Seattle airport about 20 minutes early on Friday, which ended up being a huge blessing because we knew we’d hit five o’clock rush hour plus we had no idea where we were going. We had previously printed out Google maps of all the places we were going, but we missed the one for the rehearsal dinner. While we were stuck going five miles an hour in heavy traffic, surrounded by construction, I called the bride-to-be in hopes she’d pick up and give us directions. I left a message. Needing to make a quick decision we decided to go off the wedding venue directions because the rehearsal dinner was supposedly close by. That would have a been great and all, but we didn’t anticipate missing the freeway exit and ended up way north-east of were we needed to be. Oops! Thankfully we picked up a few maps at the airport and were able to make a detour that ended up being faster than backtracking. By the time the bride called us back we were halfway between the 405 and 5. When we arrived, we found front row parking and the wedding party had just ordered. Perfect! Seeing Heather and meeting her soon to be husband Wally before the big day was great. Everyone was happy and talkative and the food was good too.
Saturday was a blur…in the morning we woke up, had breakfast, grabbed our things and headed over to Heather’s apartment. Did we get lost? yes we did. Google maps was wrong again. Thankfully we had Heather’s mom’s number and she confirmed that we needed to go farther than the map told us. We found her apartment and made our way inside. Joel, Heather’s son whose 2 1/2 years old, was napping and we were going to take him to the wedding venue after he woke up so that the bridal party could get ready and not worry about the little guy. It all worked out great except we got lost using Google maps yet again. We were driving in the opposite direction of the venue and when we finally figured it out and turned around we got stopped at one of those bridges that lifts for boats to go through. I was biting my nails at that point because we had a 1/2 hour till the wedding was going to start. The nice thing is that they wouldn’t start without us since we had the ring bearer. hehe. The wedding was beautiful and the bride was lovely in her flowing white gown. The wedding venue was an old school place with it’s copper plated ceilings, sparkling chandeliers, cozy booths, short belt and pulley ceiling fans and revolving door which gave the wedding a dramatic and intimate feel. We were coupled in our booth with another family with their son Titus who was around 8-9 months old. We had a great time gabbing with them as well as meeting other friends of Heather’s that we’ve always heard of but never actually met before. It was so nice to put names to faces. Everyone was super nice and friendly, which made us being outsiders “San Diegians” , comforted and relaxed. Before we knew it, it was 4:30 and the bride and groom were waiting for their towncar to arrive to take them to their hotel. They must have been using Google maps too because they never showed. Around 5:30 Heather asked if we’d take them to the hotel. We of course said “Yes” and started packing their things in our Dodge Magnum. Even though I wasn’t part of the wedding party, at least they’ll have me in their getaway photos. hehe. Another funny moment was taking them downtown. Because we had put a few bells and a “Just Married” flag on the door everyone was looking and Luke and I as though we just got married. They couldn’t see the married couple in the back seat because they windows were tinted. I ended up getting into it and started waving back at people. That’s just me. After we dropped off the bride and groom Luke and I headed back to our hotel room. We changed and headed out to Red Robin. Our burgers were yummy, but made us tired so we headed back to the hotel.
Sunday started with breakfast and then we headed downtown. The plan was to meet our friends, the McKinley’s, check out Pike Market Place and have lunch. They ended up missing their ferry, which ended up being perfect because Luke and I were able to go to Heather and Wally’s brunch before the McKinley’s showed on the next ferry. We didn’t eat anything, but it was still nice to see them one last time before we left. Once we made it to Pike Market Place, it was a zoo, but we made do. We walked around and found a hole in the wall place to eat. I had my first taste of Turkish Delight. I think it’s an acquired taste. After we said farewell to our friends we went back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. The last time we went to Seattle we went to the KEG and had the best dinner ever. It’s not a bar, it’s a steakhouse. The food and service is awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone. For dessert Luke and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie.
Monday we had breakfast (waffles again!), packed and headed out for the airport. What a sad day! Leaving was bitter sweet. We wanted to stay and do more, but we also wanted to go home and see our son.
This past weekend was all about being spontaneous and I loved it. I love Corbin and I am so blessed to have him in my life, but having a baby means you have to work 100 times harder for personal time with your spouse. Leaving him with my parents for the weekend was a huge blessing for Luke and I. We missed him terribly, but we also loved being able to run around without timing it between naps and bedtime. Thank you mom and dad!
