Helping your child sleep better

I recently went to Barnes and Noble to find a book on sleeping habits for my son. Thankfully my son knows his nights from his days, but he needs help napping during the day. Now that he’s 10 weeks old he is much more alert and has troubles settling down to nap unless he’s in the car, stroller or swing. I don’t know about you, but I don’t intend on driving around for an hour three times a day to get my child to sleep.

As I browsed the parenting section I came across “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” by Marc Weissbluth, M.D. The book explains the importance of sleep from ages newborns to adolescence as well as how to help your child sleep better. So far I’ve found this book to be very informative and helpful. One thing I learned is that a child has a much more sound sleep in a crib than in a carseat or stroller. I’m sure most people are saying “duh!”, but I didn’t know. I figured sleep was sleep. Plus, when the carseat &/or stroller seems like the only place where my son will sleep for long periods of time, it’s hard to stop. However, I want the best for my son so I am trying. The book says to be consistent ….can I do it? I will do my best, but it’s so hard to hear your little baby cry:(
