A Day at the San Diego Zoo

29th February 2008

Today I met a couple mommies at the San Diego Zoo. This was Corbin’s first time to the Zoo and for once he didn’t sleep through the entire outing. We didn’t end up getting very far around the park…we found ourselves going around in circles. We only made it to the monkey/gorilla area. Next time we will make sure we take a different route.

Wendy-Look! He’s wearing the shirt you gave us from Australia:)

A great cup of coffee

28th February 2008

Last night I went over to a friends house for bible study and Corey offered me a cup of coffee. I don’t typically make coffee at home, so when I go out and someone offers me some I jump at the chance. He told me he was given a French Press a few weeks back and his wife, Jessica, warned me that it may be strong. After my first sip I was amazed at the flavor. I never thought a French Press would be any different than a regular coffee pot, but it was.

I looked online and found a great website called CoffeeGeek.com. It gives you a little history about the press pot, the important factors in making a great cup of coffee, and how to use a coffee press. Check it out.

Maybe one day I’ll get myself a French Press, but for now I’ll be looking forward to every Wednesday night when I visit my friends for bible study.

Baby Dedication

28th February 2008

I’m a little behind on this, but I just found the pictures.

Corbin Alexander was dedicated to the Lord on January 20, 2008. Both our families were able to make it to the service which was a special treat. Corbin received an adorable quilt and a children’s bible.

Dedicating a child acknowledges God’s sovereignty not only over the child, but also Mom and Dad. Parents present their child before God and His people asking for grace and wisdom in carrying out their responsibilities. Parents also come praying that their child might one day trust Jesus Christ as Savior for the forgiveness of sin.

Before the actual ceremony, it is crucial that pastors counsel parents about the meaning of dedication. The best passage for discussion is Deuteronomy 6:4-7. First, it commands parents to love God; if they truly wish for their child to one day love and follow God, their lives must be an example. This is a good time to query parents about their own personal relationship with Christ.

Second, Deuteronomy makes clear that the duty of teaching children belongs to parents; Sunday schools can provide weekly instruction, but parents must seize the teachable moments that arise throughout life. Explain the value of prayer (for example, repetitious prayers like “Now I lay me down to sleep . . .”) at meal times and before bed. Urge them to read aloud Bible stories for devotions. Give them practical ideas they can implement into their daily family routines.

Feeling Better

24th February 2008

This past week started out pretty rough. I came down with a sinus cold on Monday and Corbin was still sick with bronchiolitis from the week prior. Thankfully Luke was home on Monday because of the holiday and was able to take care of him the entire day while I slept and went to the doctor.

A week later and I’m happy to say that Corbin and I are doing 90% better. His breathing treatments are over today and I am no longer congested. Woo-hoo! I think I would have lost my mind if I didn’t have Jesus. Having your infant cry for no unknown reason, vomiting on you multiple times a day, changing nasty diapers, random fits of discomfort, extra clingy…it can drive a mom a little batty.

Let’s just hope Luke doesn’t come down with anything…please no!
